Principal’s welcome

Goondiwindi State School has been part of our community since 1864 and has a very proud tradition of community based education with a vision for supporting the development of future citizens who have the skills and knowledge to contribute and thrive in the wider community.

Our current school improvement aims are:

·       Reading – understanding a range of text for both enjoyment and information.

·       Writing – being engaging and informative authors by using 7 Steps to Writing .

·       Social Development – learning what our GREAT EXPECTATIONS of Give Your Best, Respect, Enjoy, Act Safely and Teamwork mean in different settings and at different ages and how they can be powerful attributes in our learning and life.

·       Inclusion – supporting and challenging all children to help them be the best they can be.

·       Attendance – we have only 200 school days and so much to learn.  Every day counts at our school with our goal of 92% for this year.

This year through the Great Results Guarantee funds of $193 000 we are able to expand our support of reading intervention programs, providing greater staffing and physical resources for more students.  We continue to focus on the importance of checking for student learning to inform our teaching in short data cycles, making every day an important next step in learning.

Our school boasts a staff with a high level of experience and expertise, including a Head of Special Education, Master Teacher, Support Teacher – Literacy and Numeracy, Health and Physical Education Teacher, Instrumental and Classroom Music Teachers, Gifted and Talented Mentor, Literacy Links Specialist Teacher and a Speech Language Pathologist. We are a learning community, with all staff supported in their professional growth, through feedback, coaching and professional development.

Our Parents and Citizens Association are an integral part of our school, supporting our students and school to be a great place of learning.

We are very proud of our school, students and community and welcome new families to our school.  It really is Just Great at Gundy State.
